This Year’s Event

This year’s event will be held August 25th, beginning with Brian’s Rice Lake Challenge. Brian Connor and George Bennett will complete a 4 ½ kilometer trek across Rice Lake, cyclists will be riding 100 km around the perimeter of the lake and once again we will be encouraging participants to join in on the “Tyler’s Walk” for Duchenne and with the option of a leisurely 3 km or 6 km walk, beginning and ending at the Government Dock in Gores Landing.

Tyler Lynn, a local young man from Cobourg who suffers from Duchenne’s has been an active participant in the Yes We Can event for the past 9 years. Tyler’s uplifting spirit and enthusiasm in this event provide an added dimension to this event each and every year. Tyler’s walk will begin from 9:00 am to 9:30 am and arrive back in time to greet the swimmers and cyclists on their arrival between 10:00 am and 10:30 am.

The Yes We Can Annual Charity golf tournament will follow the events at Rice Lake with a 9 hole scramble at Dalewood Golf & Country Club. We will utilize the entire 18 holes with foursomes playing either the front nine or the back nine in a fun-filled shotgun scramble format. Check-in will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by a shotgun start at 2:00 pm (golf range will be open to all participants). For those not participating in the golf are welcome to join us anytime in the afternoon; cocktail service will begin at 5:00 pm with a buffet dinner to be served around 6:00 pm. Music and entertainment will run from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm.

This year, Yes We Can is raffling off tickets to win Ice Level Seats to see the San Jose Sharks vs. the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 in Ottawa. Includes free parking and hotel expenses. Price of the tickets will be $5 each or 3 for $10. Tickets will be drawn at the end of the Yes We Can Fundraiser on August 25, 2018.

We are hopeful you will consider supporting our 2018 Fundraising efforts. Jesse’s Journey continues to inform us all of the promising headway the various research labs are making towards a cure for Duchenne’s to help young men and boys like Tyler. We know whatever funding we can provide to the three local families we are supporting here, in our 10th year, will be extremely helpful and encouraging to each one of them. We appreciate your contributions, donations and/or gifts you are willing to contribute to our event.

With the exception of minor cash flow (a couple hundred dollars), all proceeds from Yes We Can’s fundraising will be donated to Jesse’s Journey and our three local recipients. If you have a preference of where you would like your contribution directed, please let us know and we will make sure the funds are distributed appropriately.
